I fondly remember visiting Oesterlen Home for Children during my father's tenure as Director of Public Relations, 1959 to 1967. He was a ULC pastor who, almost every weekend, traveled to ULC (and later LCA) churches throughout Ohio and Indiana, leading special instructional workshops and preaching sermons about the good works that Oesterlen did, helping delinquent teenagers.

I remember occasions when he would use us in pictures for PR materials. One Oesterlen Christmas Card showed my brother, sister and me sledding down the hill in front of Oesterlen's main building. (They would not use pictures of actual residents at any time, so slides that showed students in classes, for example, used volunteers from local church groups willing to be in pictures.

My brother has the slides from this period. Eventually I hope to go through those pictures and relive these memories.
